It is now several weeks since the surface at Meydan, Dubai's new flagship racecourse, was confirmed as an all weather one, Tapeta – a marked change from the traditional dirt used at Nad Al Sheba.

The crowd in the packed dining room at Claridges gave Oxx a standing ovation when he came forward to collect his trophy from The Daily Telegraph sports editor David Bond.
